Swope's Cars of Yesteryear, Elizabethtown, KY
Location:     East of Evansville, IN and south of Louisville, KY
Distance:     Roughly 105 miles east of Newburgh, Indiana via U.S. 60, 123 miles via Western Kentucky Parkway
Travel time: About 2 hours (one way) by either route

If you missed the Keenland Concours d'Elegance this year, but would like to see a nice collection of antique and collectable cars, Swope's Cars of Yesteryear is only two hours away. There are about 60 cars on display, some from as far back as 1910. Others were built as recently as the early '70s. All run and seem to sparkle with good care. There is no admission fee and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The following photos will give you a sense of what Susan and I saw in early May of 2019.

Top: exterior signage and 1910 Brush automobile. Bottom: one cylinder engine with 10 horsepower and detail of radiator and headlamps.

Nearing the other end of the automotive universe: this 1964 Chevrolet Impala 409 Super Sport Convertible with a boatload of performance options including a 427 horsepower V-8, Hurst four-on-the-floor shifter, glass packs, Posi-Traction, and fuzzy dice.

You will find many jewels in between such as a 1936 Rolls Royce Phantom III, a 1914 Renault, and a 1937 Cadillac Fleetwood V12.

Here are a 1923 Packard Sport Touring, a 1956 Ford Thunderbird, and a 1948 Chrysler New Yorker 3 Window Coupe.

While we were visiting, a restorer delivered an early '30s Chevrolet, two gentlemen went for a ride in a 1948 Packard Victoria Convertible, and we were shown a 1928 Packard Model 443 7-Passenger Sedan that was being readied for the July Keenland Concours.

You can read more about these and other cars in the collection on their website, https://www.swopemuseum.com.

Remember, it's free. It's close. And there are many other things to see and do in that part of Kentucky.
