Inspection Tech Session

This was a Saturday morning spent indoors at D-Patrick with certified Porsche technician Jacob Whelan. Jacob had invited us to join him in the shop while he did short inspections of four of our 911s. Naturally, we couldn't refuse his offer.

First up was Scott Klueh's 2002 996 Cabrio.

Jacob led us through the many things he looks for such as leaks and signs of unusual wear or damage.

He also pointed out interesting similarities and differences between the four cars.

Many of our club members are tech savvy, too. Jeff Jackson's track experience certainly broadens his knowledge. From left: Jeff Jackson, Austin Urfer, Loren Urfer, Phill Green, Bob Myers, TJ Myers and Jacob Whelan.

Secretly, we would all like a few laps around a track in Jeff's 2007 GT3.

Jacob points out a detail. Attentive listeners include (from left to right) Bob Myers, Terry Davis, Dale Fatland, Scott Klueh and Mike Fox. Hidden behind Jacob: TJ Myers and Mark Roethemeier.

Mike Fox's 1983 911SC was next.

This was the oldest car of our group, but holding up nicely.

Jacob knows his Porsches.

Jerry Jindrich's 2001 Carrera 4 got a quick look. Very clean underneath despite 91,000 miles on the odometer.

Tom Southwell's powerful 2008 911 Turbo Cabrio was the last car to be examined.

Jacob concluded our tech session by showing Mark Roethemeier and Tom Southwell a Touareg front drive assembly that was being repaired,...

... and then leading us over to the body shop to see a fairly new 911 being put back together after an accident. Our January tech session with Jacob Whelan was a great way to spend a Saturday morning!
