Huber's Orchard & Winery Drive

Each October the Central Indiana, Southern Indiana, Bluegrass, and Kentucky PCA regions coordinate their calendars to include a drive to Huber's Orchard and Winery on the same Saturday. Huber's designates a parking area just for Porsches. In 2017 we all chose a day in late October hoping to enjoy fall colors on our respective drives. There were fall colors but the day was grey and so cold that few people from the other regions attended. This year we expected bright sun and a temperature in the high eighties.

Fourteen Porsches gathered in Newburgh for the drive. PCA Zone Rep Jack Stephenson joined us all the way from Chicago. Mark organized us quickly and led the way. Jerry and Kate Fischer and new member Chris Olinger would meet us at our rest stop.

Railroad crossing repairs in Boonville and a road closing east of Ferdinand would keep us from our normal route along Indiana 62. Instead we went east on Vann to Indiana 61.

61 led north to Boonville across flat Warrick County farmland.

61 turned north at the town square and meandered through surface mining sites.

Once we hit I-64 we could form a good line and fly toward Louisville.

Unfortunately, Interstate traffic was heavy. A certain panel van driver was determined to keep up with all of our funny little German cars (and he did for a long time).

We made a pit stop near Ferdinand.

We were joined by Jerry and Kate Fischer and new member Chris XXXXX.

Before long we were back on I-64.

Interstate travel may sound boring but it can be fun for Porsche drivers and passengers.

It can also be visually interesting, as shown in this shot and the following photos.

Just short of New Albany, we left I-64 to take 150 north.

Then we followed the signs along twisting roads and past neatly-kept farms toward Huber's.

Who knows where we would have ended up without the signs?

Finally, the sign we were hoping to find.

There were roughly 40 Porsches in our designated parking area. Fun to see.

This was a very busy day for Huber's. A band played. Food lines were long. Picnic tables were full. Shoppers bought wine, giant pumpkins, bags of apples, baked goods, ice cream, fancy coffees, and more. The weather was beautiful. On such a nice day, Huber's Orchard and Winery was a great place to visit.

Some of the SIR folks found three available tables close together for lunch.

That made it possible to photograph at least part of our group. Great day. Good times.
