Kentucky Derby Party

A Porsche flag in front of the house and at least six Porsches parked in the street were clues to a special event on Saturday, May 5th.

Inside, Dale Fatland and Judy Ridings were hosting their third annual SIR Derby Party!

People brought food to share.

People made Mint Julips.

People had friendly conversations.

Scott Klueh had purchased two tickets to win on each horse, which he offered for sale. Buyers picked blindly from a basket and hoped for the best.

The ladies wore festive Derby Day hats...

...and paraded them before a panel of judges (two willing neighbors).

The judges debated and settled on this stunning creation worn by Linda Barth.

Desserts were enjoyed, including a delicious Derby Pie baked by Jean Wolf.

Marie Donnelly introduced a party game called Heads or Tails.

We tried our best, but Marie was the winner.

The official trumpeter announced Post Time at a rainy Churchill Downs track.

Twenty thoroughbreds and their jockeys were led to the gate.

Anxious ticket holders assembled in the living room.

And they're off!

While not an especially raucous crowd, everyone was glued to the screen.

The race was muddy, but exciting. Justify (shown here about to move from 2nd to 1st place) was the winner. The winning ticket holders were Mitch and Victoria Deep!

Attending this year's event were:
Mitch and Victoria Deep, Bob and Marie Donnelly, Dale Fatland and Judy Ridings,
Scott Klueh and Linda Barth, Jeff and Debbie Jackson, Jerry and Susan Jindrich,
Linda Parks, Manuel and Dee Dee Ramirez, Doug and Lisa Ramey,
Mark and Cheryl Roethemeier, Joe and Jean Wolf, and Criss and Macie Yelton
