Kentucky Derby Party

The annual gathering of horsepower and breeding at the Kentucky Derby was mirrored by a May 6 event hosted by Dale Fatland and Judy Ridings.

Naturally, a lot of interest was shown in Cris Yelton's new hot Ford Focus RS.

Indoors, the kitchen island was covered in great eats and surrounded by ladies in Derby Day finery. Facing the camera, (L-R) Dawn Green, Dee Dee Lewis and Victoria Deep.

Appropriate refreshments and car talk with Dale Fatland, Mark Roethemeier, Scott Klueh, and (back to camera) Phil Green.

In the dining room: Linda Barth, Dee Dee Lewis, and Judy Ridings.

In the kitchen: Macie and Cris Yelton.

On the TV: a wet track awaits the horses and jockeys.

As he did last year, Scott Klueh had bets on the day's runners in unmarked envelopes for us to pick from a basket. Gary Maier discusses his hopefuls.

Mitch and Victoria Deep examine their tickets.

Dee Dee and Manuel look at their horses.

In Louisville, the crowd sang My Old Kentucky Home.

In the comfort of the living room, we watched the horses bolt from the gate.

Who would win at Churchill Downs?

Would Sharon and Gary Maier have a $2.00 bet on the winner?

In the kitchen, tension and excitement...

... As Always Dreaming raced to the finish line.

The Official Results.

Dawn Green held the ticket for Always Dreaming to Win.

After the race, we compared hats. Too many stylish and colorful choices.

A neighbor of Judy's served as judge and gave prizes to Linda and Dawn.

The guys stood for a photo, too. Jerry's hat won...

... but it looked better on Susan.

Did we have fun? You bet. This was another enjoyable event. If you missed it, try to attend next time. Enjoy a pleasant afternoon with your SIR-PCA friends.
