West Baden Springs

Our July trip to West Baden, Indiana, site of the 2015 Porsche Parade, began with early morning greetings in Newburgh's Castle High School parking lot.

The weather looked promising and we were eager to wind our way through some of Indian's most enjoyable back roads. It was clearly a perfect top-down, wind in your hair, kind of day.

Mark Roethermeier led us out of town and into Warrick County farmland.

This day's drive included ten Porsches. For some drivers, this was only their first or second club event, and a good one to enjoy their cars and make new friends.

As usual, the mix included classic cars from several different decades.

Not that we had time for sightseeing, but it looked like this was a good year for the Hoosier State's corn growers.

Back roads in this part of the state offer a good mix of short straights...

...and frequent curves.

The Sonoco station in Birdseye made a good place for a pit stop.

Just a few more miles brought us to West Baden and...

...the stylish gates of the historic West Baden Springs Hotel.

The brick street is picturesque, but a little uneven (perhaps intentionally, to encourage a subdued, stately pace through the property).

The hotel is a fascinating, carefully restored gem from the past. It will be a unique venue for next summer's Porsche Parade.

We arrived to find a gathering of classic Hudson owners, obviously enjoying themselves.

We dined in Sinclair's for lunch and then did a bit of sightseeing around the hotel.

The scale is dramatic and the details are delightful.

Such handsome surroundings called for a group photo.

This day's drive included (L-R) Jerry and Susan Jindrich, Mike and Vicky Fox, Scott and Bryce Klueh, Dave Hostetter, Cheryl and Mark Roethemeier, Cynthia Fox and Manuel Ramirez, Tom and Rita Southwell, Daniel Fernandez, Phil and Dawn Green, Dominic Fernandez, and Michelle and Kelly Dora.

While we prepared for the drive back to Evansville, Cynthia and Manuel checked in to sample the hotel's fabled services.

Looks like a grand setting for the 2015 Porsche Parade!
