Overlook Drive

This year's Overlook Drive began in the parking lot of the Newburgh Lock and Dam. The morning was bright and sunny and promised a great day for this very popular event. This was a first drive for several new members.

Event and Membership Chairman Mark Roethermeier led us out Highway 66 toward Reo, Rockport and Tell City...

... for the casual and scenic leg of our drive.

We passed the great cooling towers of the Rockport Generating Station and one of the tallest smokestacks in the world (1,038 feet, according to Wikipedia),...

... slipped under under the conveyers carrying coal from the river terminal to the power plant,...

... and motored on to our pit stop/coffee break in Tell City.

Then it was back to the road,...

... away from the river, and into the twists and turns that make this drive so much fun.

"You are now entering the Hoosier National Forest." Tighten your seat belts.

What was the line? "Something wicked this way comes?" Sharp curves, wild elevation changes, a little increase in the heart rate?

Too soon, we leave our playground,...

... and meet fellow travelers enjoying the morning.

Finally, we reached the Overlook Restaurant and paused for a group photo. Thanks to Jerry, Dale, and the magic of Photoshop, everyone appears in this picture.

Pictured below (L-R): Daniel and Heidi Fernandez, Gary and Sharon Maier,  Linda Barth, Scott Klueh, Dale Fatland, Susan and Jerry Jindrich, Tom Southwell, Dave Hostetter, Mike Fox's friend from Tell City Tom Schnuck (owner of a 1982 928)(half-hidden behind Dave), Mike Fox, Michelle and Kelly Dora, Cheryl and Mark Roethemeier, Cynthia Fox and Manuel Ramirez.

Naturally, we enjoyed a good lunch,...

... and took in the grand panoramic view of the Ohio River valley before heading home.
